Slow boot up..CPU?
My previous processor was an AMD 3800+ 2.4ghz single core, it would boot up windows xp extremely fast, I sold it to a friend and it boots vista quite fast. I upgraded to an AMD 5000+x2 Black Edition processor and the first thing I noticed was I had a slow boot up. After the install of the new processor I re formatted to allow windows to see the 2 cores. My old mobo that I first ran this on was an MSI k9n4-sli pretty old. I have swapped it out for a new gigabyte ma-770ds3 mobo. The start up speed is the same. I also bought new memory upgrading from Geil ddr2 800 2x2gb sticks to OCZ reaper 2x1gb sticks of ddr2 1066. It's running at 800mhz. No difference in start up time. I could understand it taking a little longer to start up with the duel core but it takes about 3x longer than previous. Once in windows xp it seems to be fine.
CPU ID: Core speed: 2.8ghz(overclocked) Multiplier:14x Bus speed:200.9 HT link: 1004.6 Voltage 1.344 Memory: Dram frequency: 387.5 5-4-4-12-17 @2t Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Slow boot up..CPU?
If once in the OS it runs fine, then I would assume your slowness is ocurring primarily before the OS starts to load......just in BIOS startup. Sounds to me like you need to see if that mobo BIOS has an update available. I would appear that might be the issue.
The mention of a dual core expected to be slow isn't really the case. The dual core will speed up when multi-processing can be taken advantage of, but will not slow your system just due to being present. I have a quad core that screams at boot up. Just to share my findings.

Re: Slow boot up..CPU?
Go to Start`>`Run > Type in Msconfig on the start up tab uncheck anything you don't need, reboot is it any faster?
Also did you install or upgrade any antivirus/malware programs at the time you changed the processor?

Re: Slow boot up..CPU?
Well I'm referring to the start up just after a fresh reformat. I have went through MSConfig and made changes previously but thanks for advice. I'm starting to think it's either my CPU or Hard Drive. According to S.M.A.R.T it's at about 93% fitness which isn't to bad.

Re: Slow boot up..CPU?
Well first I installed the drivers on the cd but recently I have upgraded them, I had the same issue on the other motherboard though, at first I thought it was the board and that's why I upgraded, also for PciE 2.0. The start up speed changed after my "upgrade" to the AMD 5000+. Is it possible that one of the timings are off, somehow I doubt it but I have no other ideas. Thanks for the assistance so far though.
