First Comp build, won't boot.

Hey,

I just got done piecing together my computer, and connected the monitor and keyboard. After pressing the power button, the computer turns on with all fans running, including the CPU fan, which plugs directly into the mobo only. However my monitor doesn't seem to recognize that its plugged in or my video card isn't sending the signal. My keyboard doesn't respond either, but when i switch on the PSU it lights up the num lock and caps lock keys. No POST beeps happen either, however i never had to connect a speaker to the mobo if that makes a difference.

Can send pictures of the internals and how they are hooked up if needed.

Here is a spec sheet for the comp.

Re: First Comp build, won't boot.

Im pretty new to building computers, but since nobody else has replied I'll take a swing.

1. check all your connections, make sure everything is fully plugged in.
2. Since its a new monitor, try plugging it in to another working computer to see if the monitor is any good.
3. If you have another working computer with a PCIe x 16 slot, try the new video card in that computer - to see if the video card works.

If the video card and monitor check out as good, or if you dont have a second computer to test parts with, then I would take it all apart and follow the instructions in this post:

How to Bench Test Your System

Seems like alot of work, but it really saved my bacon on my first build.

Re: First Comp build, won't boot.

list what the components are not a list of links we need to look at them as a whole not to have go seaching for each one and trying to remember them
use the psu as a doorstop and get
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...corsair%2b550w
check if you need a bios update to recognise the cpu
does the m/b have the speaker incorporated into it,it makes things a lot simpler if you can get the bios beep

Re: First Comp build, won't boot.

Here are the Specs without the links.

Graphics Card- GeForce 8600 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported

Motherboard- JetWay 775GT1-LOGE LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

RAM- CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit

PSU- Sunbeam PSU-HUSH680-US-BL 680W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply 115/ 230 V

Case- XION Solaris XON-406 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

DVD Burner- ASUS Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 14X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache E-IDE/PATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner

Monitor- Hanns·G HW-173DBB Black 17" 8ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 500:1

Also I've tried using the RAM one at a time to see if that was the problem but it still had the same result. I've taken everything apart and made sure i connected them completely and made sure everything was hooked up right.

You mentioned updating the bios... how would i do that if the computer doesn't respond at all?

EDIT- Just tried the system bench test, with just the video card, cpu and fan and one stick of memory in. didn't get a post so i swapped sticks. Still no luck. Graphics card fan is spinning.

Re: First Comp build, won't boot.

read the reviews of the psu at newegg, all kinds of nasty reports of failure and melted connections, you have to start with a quality psu like dai linked to

Re: First Comp build, won't boot.

How would I go about updating the BIOS if I can't even get past POST?

Re: First Comp build, won't boot.

see if you can borrow an older cpu to see if you can get post and update the bios
set it up out of the case on a piece of cardboard with
cpu
video
ram
speaker
and see if you get post
check you have the correct amount of standoffs no more no less
that they line up with the holes in the m/board
usually 9
