cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
Just recently got a new motherboard. asus M2N-E. everything was installed correctly. turned on psu power, and my entire computer turned on! all the fans, everything that could move was moving...but no output to monitor, no keyb/mouse function. could not turn off pc with case switches. shut off powersupply, everything turned off.
left pc alone for a while, tried again the other day. turned on psu power, everything turned on like i expected, but only for about 2 seconds. then i smelled burning. not good. so i unplugged everything, took out everything, but couldnt find any physical damage to the mobo, cards, or anything else. my psu stunk of electronic death though, so i condemned it, and bought a new 750w corsair psu. so now i have the new mobo, new psu, put the system back together with minimal components (mobo, cpu, psu, 1 hard drive, ram, old nvidia 6600 video). when i switch on power at psu, all fans come on (case, cpu, gpu) for a split second when the mobo first gets power. the led on the mobo lights up, but i STILL cant turn on my pc with the case buttons! i hope my old psu dying didnt cook something else, but thats what im beginning to expect.... system: amd athlon 64 x2 3800+ asus m2n-e mobo corsair 750w psu hp dvd/cdrw wd 120gb hdd 2gb ram nvidia geforce 6600 |

Re: cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
attempted bench testing my system. hooked up mobo w/ processor, video card, 1 stick of ram. turned on power at psu, mobo power led came on, psu, gpu, cpu fan spin for a split second, then nothing. jumped the two pins for case power button for a few seconds, but system will not boot. tried other RAM stick, same results. this is the exact problem im having when the system is completely assembled.

Double check your wires from case to the board again. Try it with just the power switch and HDD plugged in.

Re: cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
no beeps, no noises nothing. tried booting with no ram, system didnt give a sound. tried my case power switch wires plugged in alone, still no joy... i tore apart my case front cover ( its one of those with a little lcd in front showing temp, hdd activity, etc.) and checked all the connections to switches, etc. they were all ok. tried hooking up another case, still no difference, although i didnt expect one since the sys didnt boot when i manually jumpered the case power pins on the mobo...
any other ideas before i completley condemn the mobo? |

Re: cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
ok well i guess im going to go get a new mobo....which leads me to a new question:
the m2n-e supports sata hard drives, and only has one ide connection. i have a dvd drive and 2 hdd, all of which are ide. i really dont want to go get sata hdd's and transfer everything, is there such a thing as sata-ide adapters? and if there is, are there any risks or downsides to using them? |

Re: cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
I have seen no negatives thus far with the IDE to sata adapters
here is the one I have used plenty of >>>>>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812232004 as for motherboard ...... RMA the dead board back to asus for replacement if you cant wait for the 2 week RMA turn around, then get a new board from Mwave.com / click on refurbished / click on motherboards and save 50% and MORE

Re: cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
i returned the motherboard where i purchased it and got a cheaper one, has everything i need and i had extra store credit to pick up some ide-sata adapters. pc is running well now, plan a full reformat soon though....its due, and as soon as i get some extra cash together, newegg has a WD 500gb sata hdd that i think im gonna have to pick up.

Re: cant turn on pc, new mobo, psu
this is for all ASUSers (motherboard). i hope this useful
i have asus motherboard (with p4 631 lga775 3.0ghz processor) that suddenly dead when i restart my pc. before the board dead there was "can't find rom..." message and after i restart, the computer is dead, no display at all. i didn't do anything to the board, like upgrade the bios or anything else. it was dead just like that :-( so, i try anything to make it "life" again. google-ing was not help much. please be notice that "dead motherboard" on this situation is mean that the computer won't post, no display on the monitor, but board green light is on, cpu fan is rotating and the power supply working good. THE SHORT STORY IS I SUCCEED MAKE THE BOARD LIFE AGAIN. here are what i did : 1. unplugged all cables from the electricity source that connected to the computer. inlcude the vga cable that connected to the vga card (i believe it have electricity even it off), key, mouse, modem, etc. 2. take everything, i mean everything, out from the board (excludes the processor and the rtc battery). DO NOT change jumpers setting at all. 3. unscrewed the board and take it out from it place. 4. take off the rtc battery. 5. take off the heatsink+fan and the processor (don't forget to place the processor on the antistatic matterial), close the load plate and close the load lever until it snaps into the retention tab. cover the cpu socket with its (plastic) cover (or you can use any antistatic material to cover it). now i have an empty board. 6. take a little while to clean the board from dust (if any). i used a small brush to clean it. 7. leave the board (on it empty state) for about 30 minutes or a bit more. 8. install the cpu, heatsink+fan and rtc battery (i used new rtc battery or you can use other than last rtc battery as long as it is in good working condition). 9. install the memory (ram) with 1 stick only. i was use 2 sticks of ram before. if you use 1 stick, just install it. 10. connect the key(board) and the monitor to the board. connect the 20 pin atx power connector, 4 pin atx 12v connector for the processor (or the system will not boot up) and cpu fan connector to the board. PLEASE REMEMBER, NO ELECTRICITY INVOLVED UNTIL THIS STEP. so, if your monitor use seperate electricity source, make sure it unplugged. 11. now plug in the power supply cable to the computer and turn on the computer. if it still dead, wait for 5-10 minutes beetwen attempt. I MADE ONLY TWO ATTEMPTS UNTIL THE BOARD LIFE AGAIN. 12. on post, press del key to enter the bios, load the bios defaults value and save it. i've got a "press f1" key message to enter the bios. 13. computer will post and will ask for boot media that is not connected yet. 14. turn off the computer and unplugged all the electricity cables. 15. install all the things needed on the board and turn it on again. i didn't upgrade or downgrade the bios from it last bios. there are no floppy or cd-rom involved on this try. they even not connected to the board at all until the board life again. so, the message here is DO NOT DEPEND ONLY FROM THE BOARD MANUAL IF YOU FACE SAME PROBLEM. YOU CAN TRY ALL THINGS THAT MAKE SENSE TO YOU TO MAKE THE BOARD WAKE UP AGAIN FROM IT "SLEEP". so don't forget to write me if you success with above method. good luck |
