[SOLVED] Weird Issues with Brand New Build

Just built my new system and am having some weird install and hang issues. Especially with games. Game installer loads and get the interface for it but the moment it starts the progress bar just SITS there. As long as I give it enough time(5-6 minutes) it will finally kick in and actually install the game. This has happened with NWN2, Oblivion and the Witcher.
Another issue is the launcher will prepare an install and then when it tries to load the interface it just sits in the task bar. Right clicking it doesn't help and cant do much but click about and move(which does nothing). Mousing over the item in the task bar for vista's little preview image shows a grey image.
This has happened with nvidia drivers and performance tools as well as the CoD 1.4 patch.
Trying to figure out what the hell is going on, anyone have any ideas? Im wondering if it's a memory issue or.....just something with the new MOBO bios hasn't fixed yet.

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

Sorry for Doube Post but didn't see an edit message.
Useing CPU-Z it shows my memory as PC-2 6400....but the model number is correct for PC2-8500 which this memory is.

Wonder if I should disable SpeedStep and C1e Support..

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

I've got the latest bios.
PSU is Corsair 620HX

Also issues where programs stop responding for minor periods of time.

Could it be the memory divider?

FSB:DRAM is shown at 5:8

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

sounds like your hard drive is having a hard time communicating. Check the cables and plugs, jumper, bios settings.

Does it take longer then normal for it to load windows?

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

two things I would try

Memtest ....... make a bootable CD using the memtest ISO (free download) then install only one stick of memory into your mobo / use the slot closest to the cpu for single stick config ........... run memtest for at least 2 hours per stick and then check for errors

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

next go to your hard drive manuf's website / downloads and get their bootable hard drive diangostic software then test the drive ........ make sure you run the extended or full test ......... not just the quickies

does this only happen when you are trying to read from a CD or does this happen when you try to update from downloaded files on your computer as well ????

is your memory listed as compatible at the memory manuf's website / memory selector ? if memory serves me correctly, thats a fussy board as to finding memory that will work correctly ?

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

is your ram a four stick configuration or two stick configuration ?

I would also up your ram voltage (called vdimm in the bios) to 2.1 volts

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

your ram is often seen as PC6400 by cpu-z when the board auto detects 1066 ram it doesnt just "go" to 1066 settings like it will with DDR2-800 ram ....... the auto detect will detect the ram as DDR2-800 and then you have to manually bump up the ram speed until you get close to 1066 speeds

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

Sorry I haven't replied, video card died yesterday.
Windows Install was fine and booting to windows seems fine as well.
Seagate jumper is pulled right off both drives as thats what the manual says to do for 3.0gbs config.(OS drive btw is OEM)
2 sticks of 2gb ram. Settings in the bios are manually set, timings, frequency and voltage.
quick HD tests were fine but won't be able to run memtest or full tests with the seatools until the new video card arrives from newegg, dont have any PCI express cards lieing around unfortuntately.
Latest chipset drivers are loaded as well. Board only came out a couple weeks ago so not much there just yet.

Install hangs occur from physical optical drives, Virtual drives and EXEs, such as downloaded game patches.

RMAed gpu hit UPS today, gonna be probably a week at least before the new one arrives and I can do some more digging.
Also get alot of deals with programs not responding, firefox, etc feals like it's all connected.

I doubt it very much but could the GPU going bad cause the issues?

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

Well, back. new replacment card installed and seems like...at least the no reason non responding stuff is still happening.

Also PC wizard doesn't want to load. it gets stuck at system analyzing, hardware detection. 16% in.

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

No there isn't.
There WAS before I updated the chipset drivers, but it's gone since and issues still there.

Re: Weird Issues with Brand New Build

running it from search box at bottom of vista start menu does nothing, trying to do it from cmd says "access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

BTW, when the not responding bits happen, the entire system is hanging, not just the windows or bit I have up.

Couldn't edit.

it says
"this type of file is NTFS.
Cannot Lock current drive.
chkdsk can not run because volume in use, do you want to run on next restart."
