[SOLVED] Bought a new case

and installed everything in the case as it was in the previous. Im not sure I have the audio and other cables in properly but I have a few other problems too The main one being that my computer will start up then shut off after a few seconds. Then I have to unplug it to try it again. Ive tried to refrain from doing this alot as Im not sure its going to do my pc any good. We got it working for a while im not sure what I did exactly however, it wouldnt go past the screen with the flashing underscore. Any help would be appreciated.

These specs might help.
Motherboard Specs

Edit: I now have it restarting constantly >-<

Re: Bought a new case

I'd reseat all the conections . . if that does not do the trick, click on the Bench Test link in my signature and go thru that process

Is the power supply different? . . if so what brand and wattage?

Re: Bought a new case

Okay, so its booting up every time now.
Went through the BIOS setup, and everything seems to be in order.
The harddrive is registering, as are the cd/dvd drives, and theyre all set to their primary/secondary boot order.

BUT, my computer will not load past the flashing ' - ' in the upper left corner of the screen.

I really dont have a clue what it might be.

Re: Bought a new case

Was it working ok in the other case?

Try disconnecting all drives except the boot drive and see if it acts differently

Re: Bought a new case

Yep was working fine in the other.
Ive tried detaching the other bootable devices, and vice versa.
Tried swapping the ram sticks, and booting with just 1 ram stick.

All that i can feel is left to try is a different HDD or IDE cable.

Re: Bought a new case

Starting up and then shuting down does not sound like a drive or cable issue . . Can you try a different power supply . . one that is a brand name?

Re: Bought a new case

Did you mess with the cpu/heatsink/fan during the move or just moved them in the mobo? Might try to reseat it.

Re: Bought a new case

I kept it attached to the mobo on the move.
Could it have perhaps damaged it that way?

EDIT:

Took the heatsink off, and lifted the processor, put 'em back on, still the same damn blinking -

:(

Re: Bought a new case

Leaving it on was the right thing to do . . Did you reapply the thermal paste when you put the heatsink back on?

Re: Bought a new case

Just double check too that you hadn't reversed the IDE cables to your HDD/CD_DVD Drives when you switched cases, if you have what are known as 80Pin cables there is normally one coloured plug with a long distance between it and the next 2 connectors, which goes to the motherboard, whilst the other two connectors are closer together and may be of similar colour. Also make sure should you have a 40 pin IDE Cable , that it goes to the CD/DVD Drive. The 80 pin is much finer cabling than the 40 .. so easy to see difference, although I always prefer to put 80's to both interfaces.
If your HDD & CD/DVD are on the same cable it is even more important that the cable be inserted correctly, it is often easily reversed so that the extra distance from HDD to CD/DVD is reached

Re: Bought a new case

Okay, so i got hold of my spare harddrive and it boots perfectly with it.

I checked the harddrive that wouldnt load, and one of the pins for the IDE socket seems to have been pushed in somehow.

Is there anyway this can be fixed?

Re: Bought a new case

If it is just bent, you can try one of the pentel mechanical pens with the lead removed . . sometimes it will do the trick

Re: Bought a new case

Very gently and very slowly ... and when you put the cable back again .. do that with great care too .

try using some tweezers to lift it more upright before using Simps's trick with a mechanical pencil without lead

Re: Bought a new case

You might be able to pull it up using a very slim needlenose plier . . As Done_Fishin said, be very gentle and move slowly
