BSOD - STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} - All help greatly appreciated
First off, thanks for trying to help =]
Pretty much I have a BSOD with the following - STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alernate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. I got this BSOD after a blackout, when trying to reboot. I can't get passed this BSOD, and I've tried Recovery Console, but it asks for a password I've never set, and pressing enter just gives "Invalid Password". I've also tried Safe Mode, Last Working Config, none work and they just bring me back to the BSOD. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Again Mike. EDIT: Due to not being able to get into the Recovery Console, I can't chkdsk. Last edited by MichaelKB : 07-02-2008 at 05:06 AM. |

Hi, I'm afraid your hard disk may be damaged/corrupted......
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830084 Have you tried entering bios and loading the default settings? You could also try booting from your Windows XP disc and doing a repair install; or using system recovery if your pc comes with a recovery partition.
