a little confused about this>
Hi, im new here but not to computers. I have a small question. I own an optiplex gx260 and I am currently upgrading it A LOT! I'm currently running a Pentium 4 1.80A ghz 533Mhz cpu and I wanna run a Pentium 4 2.8A GHz 533 MHz. While searching geeks for this product it says where prod. requirements is posted ( * Product Requirements:
* CPU needs 533 MHz Bus support (WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???) I am at a loss as too what this pertains to , as the cpu clearly states that it features: (533 MHz system bus) Thanks to anyone who can give a little info.. |

Re: a little confused about this>
They mean the motherboard must support a 533Mhx buss not all the newer ones do.
Next question for you are you sure your OEM motherboard will suppport this speed CPU the biggest problem with OEM motherboards is lack of Bios support for upgrading processors. As OEM's don't usually support newer CPU's on a board after they have moved on in their hardware cycle.

Re: a little confused about this>
Your board can handle the 533mhz bus. But the question is. Does
your board support the cpu speed as mentioned. Do some research on that, go to mobos manufacturer website, see if it supports the 2.8, probably a prescott. If it does check to see if there is a bios update to support this, or if it will straight out. Compare your bios, with the bios that supports the cpu. It may be fine, but check your bios revision and match it to the revision that supports that cpu..
