CPU overheats
Hi everyone,
I have a CPU overheating problem. When I play a game or watch HD movie CPU temperature reaches 78C and my PC powers off. That was not the case a couple of months ago. One thing I changed is PSU, which is Corsair HX520W now. I have a passive processor cooling. I put new thermal grease (Arctic Silver 5) week ago and it helped for like half a day (playing Medieval II: Total War). Now the PC powers off after just 0,5-1 hour of playing. Another example: PC powers off when installing "Gears of War" game. Is it possible that the CPU is broken or something or is it proper cooling that's causing the problem? I watched a HD movie for 20 minutes and made 2 screenshots, before and after watching it (see attachements): Idle CPU: 35C Stress CPU: 76C My room Temperature: 25C I used SpeedFan 4.34 to check my temperatures MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (MS-7125); AMD Athlon 64, 2200 MHz (11 x 200) 3500+; Geforce 7900gt; 2GB DDR; Gigabyte Aurora Case with two, front and back 120mm fans; Windows XP Pro |

Re: CPU overheats
The statement "I have passive processor cooling" kind of tells it all. I doubt that you can get by without some type of either a CPU fan or water cooling for the temps to stay normal.

Re: CPU overheats
Hi mate,
As Tumbleweed said it before, replace and put new paste but make sure you clean processor and heat-sink from old one!!! And do not think if you put more paste it will be better... Put just a little... Also, did you clean heat-sink from the dust [I am assuming that you did, but just asking to be clear] ??? It is definately overheating problem... You should have on mind to buy fan, it is not expensive and it could do a lot on chilling inside case... Hope this will help you mate...
