Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Hey guys,

I really need help, that's the first time I post evem if I've already got a lot of info from here.

Since last week my system started to give me BSOD kind of 6/8 time a day! It's so fast that i can't read but I think it says "IRQ less or not equal", but that's all i can read, please note that I already disabled the autorestart but it does restart anyway..
The specs of the system are

AMD X2 6000+ MoBo Asus m2n32-sli deluxe, 2 GB ram (vdata) 800mhz, 2 HD Sata segate plus an external one, power supply super flower.

The system run for more that a year without ANY problem AT ALL, seriously, never something wrong, but all of a sudden BSOD constantly! How that can be?

The memtest came out ok (even tho i didn't take off one of the stick, I left both of them in)

What the hell could be? This pc is pretty empty (software wise) becaue I use it as an audio workstation and I have a really important thing I'm working on and this is my main machine, so I'm really in trouble..

Anyway, absolutely no spyware or viruses at all, the system is super clean, always have.

Any help will be much apppreciate, thanks!

Hi, try removing one of the memory sticks; if it happens again remove that stick and replace it with the other. Also alternate between sockets if the previous doesn't help.

Re: Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Ok thanks, so you think could be a ram stick that's gone?
I updated the BIOS from the old 1201 to the new 1903 but nothing changed

Re: Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Sometimes components just "die", I'm afraid.
And sometimes, the hard part is finding out which component it is.
I'm just suggesting the memory first because of the error and because it's easy to test.

How are your temps and voltages?
Download this small free program, speedfan, if you're not sure........
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Let us know the results, and the spec/model of your Super-Flower PSU.

Re: Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Is the Hwmonitor screenshot ok as well?

Anyway, here some news, I had the cpu overclocked by 10% on the BIOS, always have since the first day, but I didn't do it manually, I'm not so skilled, I used the AI Overclock? Is that the name? Wich is this automatic overclock.. I don't really know how good is that, but always worked fine for me, like I said never a problem before.
Anyway, I lowered it down to 5% and in two days no BSOD..
I don't know what to think.. It seems unprobable that could be it, but I'll wait till the next BSOD and in the meantime i'll take the ram stick away and run memtest for each one.

Re: Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Hi,
Did you swap out the memory and notice any difference?

The voltages look ok from what you've posted, but the temps could be lower, especially the drives and the video card. You have a lot of components there, all demanding resources and I'm not so sure 500W can cut it.
How many fans do you have in your case, and was this reading taken from an idle system?

Does the system ever bsod just after startup, when it's idle or you're just surfing the web; orr do these shutdowns only start occuring after it's been working for a while?

You say it's used as an audio workstation. Has it been on more or less 24/7 for the past year?

Re: Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Hi, seems we were posting at the same time there.
I'm not a fan of overclocking, at all.
Just like driving a car too fast; you may be able to go faster but some day something bad will happen. Sorry for sounding like an old man...lol.

No bsod's for two days with that adjustment, after getting so many, would seem to suggest you've found out yourself what was wrong.
Why don't you just let the processor run at it's stated speed, with no overclocking?

Fingers crossed the system remains stable, though I do think with all those components you should save for a 600-650W PSU.

Re: Random BSOD (gotta work with this system please help)

Hey Houdog,

How many fans do you have in your case, and was this reading taken from an idle system?
I have the machine in one of those server case, in a 19" rack 4U(horizontal), and it does have 2 chassis fans, it's huge and the temp never rises so much at least the processor it's always pretty cold (think that now where we're in italy and it's stupidly hot, something like almost 40 degrees), but and yes the video card is insanely hot, my g/f has the same system I have only with the 8600GT (instead of the 8500 that I have) and it's the same, these video cards seems to get super hot, for no reason I add, because if it's true that she uses the pc for games I don't..

Does the system ever bsod just after startup, when it's idle or you're just surfing the web; orr do these shutdowns only start occuring after it's been working for a while?
Never after startup, almost always during a ProTools working session, and at the beginning I thought was PT, because the software is reeeally sensitive but no, that was because I'm always working on PT when I'm at this machine, but then it started to do it even when the program not running, when I was surfing the web, but after a working session yes, that's why I thought a heat problem at the beginning..

You say it's used as an audio workstation. Has it been on more or less 24/7 for the past year?
Since it's first day, yes

No I understand :) i'm pretty much the same but the fact that was somehow "built in" made me think that was not a big deal

Yeah is what I'm going to do, i didn't do that before because as I said earlier PT is a sensitive program and any changes in the system can create any kind of odd behaviour, but seeing that lowering down the OC didn't affect it AND solved the problem *for now*, i'll be doing that.

Tonight I'll run the test for the ram anyway, taking off the component from the rack in a pain..

Fingers crossed the system remains stable, though I do think with all those components you should save for a 600-650W PSU.
I'll look around for another PSU, they are not expensive and I wanna make sure, like I said I work with this machine, I need it to be ok.

Thank you Houndog!
