Random time frame power offs

Hey guys, hate how my 1st post is a hardware support question, but I am sure your used to it ^_^b.

Anyways I have having some major issues with my PC staying powered on. At times it can shut off within 10-20sec or 30 minutes. currently I do not have an OS installed as this was a freshly built PC. from my deductions it's either my cpu is overheating, my power supply is bad, or there is possibly a short(there are 2 hole on my motherboard that are not screwed down to anything as my case didn't have holes to put a grounding post in those spots). The couple of times I have been able to make it into the bios and checked the cpu temp it is sitting at 80c(too me this seems extremely high.) to cover all basis I ordered a new aftermarket cpu fan, and a different power supply. my question is there anything I can do before those parts come in to determine which it is that is causing the issue

PC Specs:
Moboard - Asus Rampage Formula
CPU - Q9550
Ram - 8gb G.skill pc 8500
Video - 9800 gx2
HDD - WD Velociraptor
PSU - Antec 650w Neopower
Case - Antec P180

any help would definately be appreciated.
