First time builder: Front panel headers
Hey guys im a noob and im would love some help with building this computer.
The motherboard is nforce 610i by xfx. Im having problems with the front panel headers because i believe everything else is right but i cant seem to get the computer to turn on. Before while playing around with the pins i got a light on the case to flash but now that i played around with it some more it doesnt flash anymore. Anyways heres wat the manual says 1 3 HD_leD 2 4 PWRLED 5 7 Reset switch 6 8 Power switch. Now here are the cables i have to work with and the colours they are. HD_LED is white and red PWR LED is two seperate cables 1 white and 1 green Reset switch is blue and white power switch is blue and white. How should i arrange this so that maybe theres a sign that this computer might actually work. Please any advice would be appreciated. |

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
shorting pins 6 and 8 with a screwdriver should turn the computer on. Connect the blue and white wires to pins 6 and 8, order doesnt matter (just needs a closed loop).

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
I always had that problem, but I think that the white wires are the "hot" and the "color" are the ground. So (1,2,5,6) will be white. like HD_led would be (1 white - 3 red). And so on. Hope this makes sense.

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
When I build, I take a copy of that schematic of the front panel header in the manual and blow it up with a printer so it is easy to see. Then, get yourself a little flashlight and a magnifying glass and the place to put those leads is normally printed right on the motherboard...hard to see without some help with a light and magnifying glass. Then, you can match them up properly. Just count pins from the end of the motherboard and you should get it right.

"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" what does this mean? did i not connect my dvd drive correctly in? or is it my hard drive? Its a sata hardrive so does that mean its only the sata cable and the power cable going in? sorry guys im a total noob. Mods if anything maybe i should start a new trhead about my new problem? |

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
Go to the boot menu in the bios and when there, set your boot order to:
CDrom - 1st Floppy - 2nd (if any) Boot Drive - 3rd Then, scroll on down to the Hard Drive Priority in that section and make sure your boot drive is set FIRST in that order. Don't forget to save before you exit.

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
If you only have one drive on the cable, it must be set to master and on the end of the ribbon cable. If there is another drive on there and it is set to master (and it is on the end of the ribbon cable), then this drive should be set to slave and on the middle connector of the ribbon cable.
Almost forgot, you simply pull that little plastic pin off (metal inside) and move it to where you want it by pushing it back on those pins. Most of the time, you can do that with your fingers, but sometimes, a pair of thin needle nose pliers are needed (rarely). Post back with questions/concerns/things you don't understand.

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
The BIOS is already installed. As soon as you switch the computer on, keeping pressing F2 and the DEL key untill you get a menu. This is the BIOS.

Re: First time builder: Front panel headers
Refer to the manual and find the instructions to check the tempratures straight after the PC restarts. Copy them down and show us them please.
