Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed
Hi All,
I received the following error yesterday. My PC blue screened and upon reboot the following error occured "Seconday IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed" Windows then started to boot and then blue screened, could not even boot to windows. No hardware changes have been made to my PC at all, the last change I made was 3 months ago, new IDE DVD burner and a new 1gb stick of RAM. But everything was OK, up until yesterday Since that time I managed to boot into the repair console and run a chkdsk /r this has enabled me to get into windows, so at least I can now backup my data, but this message still appears. Any ideas? Thanks guys |

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed
Thanks Doby, I will get a new IDE cable this week, your right they are cheap and it may just fix the issue. I hear that a faulty battery can also cause this problem. Will check it out this week and will let you know
Anyone else had this issue? And if so what was the cause? |

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed
Before buying anything, try running your hard drive on the secondary IDE slot using that same cable. If it boots normally it's your DVD burner.
To test your DVD burner, try running it as a slave to your hard drive on your Primary IDE slot. If it runs smoothly chances are it's your cable. Remember on some BIOS the IDE controllers may require you to use either Cable Select as default setting on your IDE drives.

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed
HDD has been tested, showed some errors, which are now corrected
It did however advise that the IDE cable was damaged, so may just replace the IDE cable |

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed
I got this error when I forgot to check drive jumper placement.Might want to check that too, but I doubt it if you have nevr moved or unplugged any of the drives.
