CPU setup problem
I am currently running a PC with the following specs:
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 6MB Cache S775 1333MHZ Motherboard : P5WDG2 WS Professional Main Station Series PSU : CoolerMaster Real Power 550W SLI PSU Graphics Card : nvidia geforce 8800 GTS RAM : 2GB Crucial 1GB 240Pin DIMM PC2-5300 CAS3 DDR II SDRAM Before this I was running an Intel Pentium D 945 Socket 775 3.4GHz 2x2MB. After I changed the CPU it would come up with a message telling me I needed to configure new CPU settings and would give me the option to either go into setup and do this manually or to load the default settings, if I chose the first option it would freeze when I tried to enter the CPU setup sub-menu, and if I chose to continue with the default settings it would say it was checking the NVRAM and freeze also. I read a few posts and similar things had happened to others who had recommended clearing the CMOS by removing the battery from the motherboard for several seconds. I did this and the only thing that changed was instead of coming up with a message saying I had installed a new CPU it would say "Intel CPU uCode Loading Error" followed by the same options that would freeze at the same points. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: CPU setup problem
it looks like you need to update the bios to recognise the new cpu
turn the computer off remove the power lead from the back take the side off remove the cmos battery move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2 replace the battery put the side on replug in the power lead boot the computer there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver 2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper a cmos clear switch or button there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

Re: CPU setup problem
Ok I did that, seemed just to reset the cmos same as removing the battery did. Clock and date settings reset but apart from that nothing was different. I'm assuming I can't update the bios without booting the PC though right?
