[SOLVED] computer will not turn on

hello
I'm new to this place and recently my computer just crashed on me.

basically, it will not boot up, it won't even get to the opening motherboard splash screen...

I am using a MSI k8n Diamond motherboard and the D-LED indicator light shows:

RED | GREEN
---------------
GREEN | RED

which, according to the manual, says:

"Processor Initialization
This will show information regarding the processor (like
brand name, system bus, etc...)"

but it also says that if the processor is damaged or not installed properly than all of the D-LED lights will be red.

I see a no signal message on my monitor and get no other problem indicators. there is one beep when i turn it on, which is normal.

could this be a HD issue or a motherboard issue or something different entirely? I'm kind of in the dark and any help would be greatly apprciated

thanks in advance.

Re: computer will not turn on

the psu has a max output of 410w combined 12 line amps are 32=available=24
see if you can borrow a quality 550+ to try in it with a min of 26a available on the 12v line

Re: computer will not turn on

would this have happened after 2 years of use? the computer has worked fine for that time with the current power supply unit.

Re: computer will not turn on

when you tax something near it's limits in the end something is going to give way
we always recommend buying case and psu as seperate items

Re: computer will not turn on

I used that power supply...no change in behaviour...HD mounts and works fine in a 3.5 external enclosure.

Re: computer will not turn on

well i cleared the CMOS and now i can see the bios.

new problem...I can boot up Windows with one RAM stick in there but I get an error message saying that there is limited virtual memory and instructs me to set up a paging file (the performance is also understandably very slow). when i put in the second RAM in I get a blue screen of death that only stays up for a second or so and i cannot read what it says. did the CMOS clear take away the settings for a second RAM stick? if so, how can i update that?

Re: computer will not turn on

I cannot get memtest to run...i tried using the USB thumb drive version and the ISO CD drive version and neither of them boot ... i either get a non bootable device message or i get nothing and it goes right to windows.
