Bios update required for new dual core?

Am I going to need to update the BIOS on my motherboard if I am replacing the processor I currently have (an AMD 3800+ Socket 939 2.41 GHz) to a 4800 x2 939? My mobo is an Asus A8N-LA (HP calls it Nagami2-GL8E) Socket 939. If it makes any difference, the computer was offered with a dual core or a single core when I bought it, I was just cheap an went with the single.
Thanks

Re: Bios update required for new dual core?

I replaced mine recently and the Bios , Xp and Suse recognised it with no probs. Asus m2v-mx. I downloaded the AMD fix for XP.

Re: Bios update required for new dual core?

My motherboard isnt that great, and ive heard a bios update can cause the fans to run on high speed forever for my mobo. So if I just follow these instructions to make my new dual core configuration more stable, do you think i will be fine without a bios update? http://www.overclock3d.net/articles....2_hotfix_patch
