Computer will turn on but I see nothing on my monitor..
Hey guys it's me.. again lol,
I didn't exactly know where I should post this so I figured this might be a good place.. The computer "will" turn on and the CPU fan will kick on and stay on, I checked the thermal paste and it seems fine, should I still replace it? Anyways on to the problem, the computer was working fine and I turned it off to move it I did not unplug anything except the power and moved the whole desk with everything on it plugged it back into the wall and then boom dead.. I thought it may have been the PSU so I replaced it since I had been meaning to anyways, switched it from a 400W to a nice 580W power supply.. And still the same thing, computer will start and stay on with everything inside running fine but I still receive no video signal, I tried pulling to graphics card out and using the motherboards built in one and still no go.. Any ideas? Last edited by Iomega0318; 06-05-2008 at 08:23 PM. |

Re: Computer will turn on but I see nothing on my monitor..
Try another CPU. See if it works, make sure the socket for the mobo marches with the cpu u r gonna try. That happened to me last weekend, and just found out today that the problem was the cpu. You might also want to try another RAM stick

Re: Computer will turn on but I see nothing on my monitor..
Ouch, that is really going to suck if it is the CPU..
The only other one I have that matches the motherboard is one I bought to replace it a long time ago but never got the heatsink for .. Anything else it might be that I can try without replacing it just yet.. I will go ahead and look for a heatsink for the other CPU though..

Re: Computer will turn on but I see nothing on my monitor..
I am not sure if it is rated to cool a 3.12 GHz CPU, it is only cooling a 2.26 GHz one right now..
I would rather not try and end up damaging the processor.. |

Biostar P4M80-M4 VIA P4M800 Socket 478 mATX MB w/VID & SND http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...M80-M4&cat=MBB The power supply: Echo Star 580W 20+4-pin Dual-Fan ATX PSU w/SATA http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ESTAR-580-24 The PSU that came with the computer shorted out about 4 months ago, and I had been using a spare until the computer went down and I thought it may have been the PSU again so I went ahead and replaced it.. As for the video card, I can't exactly remember what it is, but I do know it is an ATI card.. And I cannot get anything on the monitor at all, not even the boot screen.. So I have no idea if I get any errors or not.. Hope that helps if you need anything else I will do my best to get it for you.. |

Re: Computer will turn on but I see nothing on my monitor..
I had this problem recently because I had been fiddling around in the BIOS and messed something up and it would do the same thing you descriped in your first post. I pulled out the battery in the motherboard and reinserted it a few minutes later, resetting the BIOS, and it booted up fine.
