System temps...

Hi... my fren just build his new system and after assembling things and installing OS.. install the HWMonitor to check the temps and this is what we found (attached pic).. i dont understand what is mean by CPUTIN and SYSTIN

hes using a Quad core, ASUS asus p5n-mx mobo, gigabyte 450w power supply and corsair 2gb value select x2 (4GB ram).. wondering the temps are quite high.. is that telling the CPU temps or other hardware temps?

Re: System temps...

What that tell us is, dont touch the cpu cause its HOT HOT HOT

Id have to guess that the CPUTIN is CPU. So yes its running hot. Better PSU, fans, heat sink or for the love of Christ, take the side off that case LOL.

Re: System temps...

Go in to the bios and see what it says about your temps. Report that back here. Also, I don't know what video card you are using, but a 450 watt power supply might not be enough. Please do look at the +12 rail on the power supply, that one is way out of specs and it might be due to the power supply not being up to the job.

One additional question, what did you use for the thermal solution between the CPU and the Heatsink?

Then, in summary, please download and run CPU CORE TEMP to see what it says about your temps on the CPU.

Re: System temps...

the BIOS also tells the same temps... heres the mobo --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131230

i supposed its says there "NVIDIA GeForce 7050" so that might be the integrated VGA..

the thermal paste is what provided by ZALMAN as my fren is using zalman 9600

Re: System temps...

Go back and read the reviews on newegg about this board. These two posts are from the first two pages:

The BIOS reads the core temp incorrectly. It thinks one of the two cores on the CPU chip is running at 71C. I use Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. I have had this chip installed on an ASUS P5N-D motherboard and it read 26C on both cores. Also pulled the chip off again and reinstalled it after cleaning, but I get exactly the same readings. Both programs like CoreTemp and HWMonitor read the chip temp correctly at 26C. All programs generally run fine, but I do get one game (Guild Wars) that thinks its overheating and kicks off after awhile with a message that it has shut off to prevent hardware damage. I have updated the BIOS to the latest available, but still have the same problem. ASUS tech support have told me there must be a problem with the way the BIOS is reading the temps and suggested that I send the board back for and RMA. Everything seems to be running fine and I didn’t feel like waiting for 2-4 weeks for a replacement motherboard, so I tolerate the one program kicking me

Bios needs work. Original bios (rev 01-something) gave wildly incorrect cpu temp reading of 71C. Flashed 0402 and temp alarms became intermittent, sometimes booting up with correct temp reading of about 27C, sometimes back at bogus 71C. Flashed 0202 and cpu temp read correctly but cpu fan speed read 0. Finally found Beta bios 0601 on asusmb.pcdiyweb.net which seems to read correctly across board. Wow. How many people are going to go crazy thinking their heat sinks are installed incorrectly or their fans aren't working? Asus, fix this.

Sounds like this user found a fix. Id suggest you follow his lead. Good luck
