[SOLVED] Beep codes???

One problem solved and I have another with my wifes' computer. I gave her my older t1842 model emachines for her business. It worked fine for awhile but now when she turns it on, it goes "beep.. BEEP< BEEP< BEEP, BEEP< BEEP< BEEP, ..BEEP" I guess that would be 1-3-3-1. This has to be an error code. No video. Just the sound. DVD/cdrw drive lights come on (2 dvd drives) and HDD drive light comes on for a second and thats it. This computer has 2 ram stacks (256 and 128) and I took both out one at a time and no joy. The next time I tried to boot it booted. I turned it off and restarted and it gave me the error codes and wont stop. It has an upgraded power supply (300 watts I believe I upgraded 3 years ago, the machine is 5 yrs old). The pwr supply could be the problem but I am hesitant to buy a new one if someone has some more suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Beep codes???

Well, Moderator posts really didnt help me. i am not sure what the phoenix codes are or if they pertain to me. the only info I could find was that my mobo is a Florida-TGA Part No: 1340 SKU. Any help appreciated!

Re: Beep codes???

300w is on the low side for an xp computer
one of your friends probably has a higher wattage one lying around after upgradeing as todays computers are around double or more that wattage

Re: Beep codes???

the beep error code if you are reading the beeps correctly comes up as
Autosize DRAM
re-seat it
rum memtest on it 1 stick at a time

Re: Beep codes???

Dai, i assumed a phoenix beep code. I did swap out mem cards. Checked them again and I had caught a wire and the upper part of the mem stick was not seated. I seated it and the computer would not even turn on. I took it out and the computer came right up! Thanks man!! Thats what i get for not being thorough. (out of navy electronics too long!). anyway, pwer line caught up is fine, no kink and no open insulation. Just cant understand the mem stick cutting out all the pwer. Maybe I still didnt have it inserted correctly. Oh well, will by upgrades of ram and install. Thanks again. Will start a new post about power supplies!!
