I recently purchased the Intel Pentium 670 processor for my D915PGN motherboard.
On the Intel site it says the board is only compatible with this processor with a sSpec SL7Z3. The one I purchased is sSpec SL8PY. I would like to know, will the sSpec number affect the compatibility with my D915PGN board or not? WManiacXXI |

Re: Will the sSpec number ON CPU affect the compatibility with my Motherboard?
Hi WManiacXXI, the only difference in the chips is the stepping and multiplier, they are identical in almost every other way. The board should auto recogize the chip, but you might give Intel a phone call or email. The SL8PY chip has an 18 multi and the SL7Z3 a 19 multi. Mike

Re: Will the sSpec number ON CPU affect the compatibility with my Motherboard?
Thank you 2pistolpacker for replying. I sent an email to Intel and they responded:
Hello, Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support. I understand that you want to know if the Intel desktop board D915PGN supports the Intel Pentium 4 processor 670 with spec number SL8PY. The Intel desktop board D915PGN supports only the processors mentioned on the supported processors list:(same link as in my previous post) So the Intel Pentium 4 processor with spec number SL8PY is not supported. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance. Sincerely, Adolfo S. Intel Customer Support So I guess they tested it and it was incompatible. |
