New WD SATA HDD not detected in BIOS

I recently bought a Western Digital 500Gb Hard Drive because I was running out of space on my boot drive and needed some place to store all my music and movies. The new hard drive is a SATA drive (WD5000AAKS) and my motherboard is an Intel Desktop Board D945GNT. I installed the drive and partitioned it in Disk Management and it worked fine, I copied my media folder over from my boot drive to the new one and I could access all the files just fine. I used it with no problems for a few days then one day (my birthday

) I woke up and turned on my computer and the drive wasnt in My Computer anymore, I went into BIOS and it wasn't showing up in BIOS either, all my SATA ports said "not installed" beside them. I updated my BIOS to the latest version and bought a new SATA data cable and the new hard drive still isn't showing up in BIOS or disk management. Windows hangs at startup now and I have a bad feeling that the drive failed although it still sounds like its spinning up and its warm to the touch. Any ideas?

check it's set to be seen as ide in the bios

How do I set it to be seen as IDE in the BIOS? I've been through BIOS and I can't find the option for it.

if the drive has failed, is there any way to recover my lost data?

slave it on another computer

Yup. Try to slave it on another computer with SATA as primary master.

And for your lost data, use GetDataBack.
