CPU problem

Ok here goes, I just recieved my Intel core 2 E8400. Installed it and was suprised to see I was stuck at splash screen. PC wont post past that and I cant get into my BIOS. I have since reinstalled my old cpu and am Using it now. I have updated my BIOS and all should be well but no go. I even took it up to a local place and the guy said it sounded like BIOS so he then tried to install the CPU but no luck, same problem as befor.

Also I forgot to mention that I actually replaced the new CPU thought it may have been a faulty CPU even but same problem.

after updateing the bios and fitting the E8400
did you reset the cmos
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer
