Intel Core 2 6420 running at only 1.6ghz

Hey, i have an Intel Core 2 CPU 6420 which is only running at 1.6ghz.

On my system properties, it states :

Intel (R) Core(TM)2 CPU
@ 2.13GHz 1.61GHz

I was wondering, is there any way to boost this up and why does it show two readings 2.13GHz and 1.61GHz ?

Do i have to overclock it ? If so, how ?

Thanks !

Re: Intel Core 2 6420 running at only 1.6ghz

Don't worry this is a Common Error, Windows says its 1.6 ghz when its 2.1ghz but it still runs at the full 2.1ghz unless its coming up as a single core (if its a core 2 duo) then you have a problem, muddle around on your motherboards creators website or intels they might have a fix, update your motherboard bios, like for example with my core 2 quad, i used to get a intel Ucode error (from bios and ram...it was only ddr1 and i didnt have any ddr2 and the time) but when i got new ram, same error updated bios, Viola simple Fix, if not well Eh just wait for another response but yeah thats all i can help you with, now i shall goto sleep seeing though its 12am... Hey thanks for the help ! I went on my mainboards website and found bios updates. But theres a couple of them including the one i need for my 6420.

Do i have to install all of them, or just the one i need ?

no you just need to download the latest, usually its all compiled into the latest and a warning while updating DO NOT do anything else it maxes out the motherboards bandwidth and slows down your pc incredibly. anything else (even on a quad core like mine) most likely means a crash, I've killed a motherboard like that just listening to music luckily i sent it in and got the bios chip replaced with the latest bios,
