Pause/Stall after new(used) CPU installed.

Hello all,

I bought a used cpu from a ebay store a couple of weeks ago. Im upgrading to a 3.06 from a 2.4. After changing the cpu out, I turned on Hyper Threading and entered CS:S. Almost right away I noticed a few times a minute the game would just stop for no longer then 1-2 seconds and then continue on. I then tried Far Cry and it did the same thing. When this happens and I continue to move the mouse or keys on the keyboard, when it stops stalling and continues on, I am all of a sudden looking in other directions and or if I am firing I get a repeated sound till the pause is over. So I know the mouse and keyboard are sending out information to the mobo while the pause is happening and the mobo is getting that information. Anyways, I sent that cpu back and recieved another one (replaced my old one in the mean time.) No problem with my old one but again, changed out the cpu with the second new (used) one and the same thing. Stall/pause in games. So I go to driver direct or what ever and check to see what I can update. Update as much as I can. Flash and update my bios. Turn off HT and check bios settings and still have this same problem. When the first cpu did it I was told by a local tech, thats a classic sing of a bad cpu. Is this true? Whats the chance of two bad cpus with the same problem? If anyone has any ideas or what every PLEASE post em. OH I have done a bunch of benchmark tests and everything was great cept for something about the DMA... Thanks and heres my specs:

Gigabyte GA-8SQ800 (533fsb, 4gb 333mhz / 2gb 400mhz, 3.06(HT)478
SiS655 chipset

Old CPU: 2.4ghz 533fsb 256cashe
New CPU: 3.06ghz 533fsb 512cashe (HT) Turned on in bios
Ram: 2gb 333mhz (4x512) 3 diff brands. (stalls with any combo)
BFG 7800 Nvida GS OC agp 256mb
Sound Blaster Audigy
2 Maxtor 40g HDs. (one has bad sectors but is only used for storage)
Case: Antec Performance 2 Series SX1000IIwith 4 fans (side is open at this time) Cant remember what wattage the power supply is but its the stock one that came with the case.

If any more info is needed just say so. Thanks a ton!

Yes, freezing and pausing could be caused by a bad cpu and Ive had it done on a client's computer before.

Hopefully the store you bought it from is not shady and didn't send you the same cpu twice.

Re: Pause/Stall after new(used) CPU installed.

EDIT FOR ABOVE POST:
CPU temp is 35-40c while idle, never over 50 under load.

That had crossed my mind, though when I inspected the cpu it had what seemed to be older thermal past around the edge. Was more a clay texture then a past. When I returned the first one it was clean. I guess they could of tested it. Not sure how long it would take for the thermal past to start to harden... I have some ill do a little test with it.

Re: Pause/Stall after new(used) CPU installed.

The seller is letting me return this cpu as well for one more try. I took down what looked to be a serial number off the top of the cpu. Anyone know if cpus are indeed marked with their own serial number? But if this one doesnt work, Id guess Ill try a new mobo. I really didnt want to put to much money into an out dated computer though. I just figured Id get a bit more time for a bit more money. An extra gig of ram and this cpu only set me back 100.00... Will post what happens next when it happens. But if anyone has any input in the mean time please post. thanks!
