[SOLVED] Computer will not boot
I have a computer with a Gigabyte GA-7VR motherboard that worked fine until the other day, it would not start at all.
I opened up the case and the little LED on the motherboard was on, it turned off when I turned the power supply off. I turned the power supply back on and tried starting it, the CPU fan and case fan both turn on for a fraction of a second, then turn off. The LED on the USB flash drive also comes on and the LED on the motherboard comes on and stays on. I've tried swapping power supplies, and a different power switch with the same results. I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard gone bad. I'd like to replace the motherboard but not sure if it could possibly be the CPU as well. I'm hoping to be able to use the same CPU and RAM, any ideas? Thanks |

Re: Computer will not boot
Hi, sounds more like a cpu problem i'm afraid; try cleaning and reseating the cpu or borrowing one or buying the cheapest kind your rig will take. 2nd hand processors are very cheap these days; this will at least let you know if your mobo is ok.

Re: Computer will not boot
Well I replaced the Gigabyte motherboard with a PCChips motherboard and used the same CPU and RAM. Started up fine, just had issues with XP not liking the new hardware. Instead of playing around I just backed up files then formatted the hard drive, reinstalled XP and now we're up and running again!
I did notice some buldged caps on the old board. Thanks for the reply anyway Houndog |

Re: [SOLVED] Computer will not boot
The Gigabyte mb was toast. I installed all of the hardware exactly the same, only with the PCChips mb. Windows didn't like it when the mb was switched, so I just backed up what i needed to, then formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows.
What kind of issues are you having? What have you tried? |
