12 v connector

i just replaced my motherboard and the new one has a 4 pin 12 volt connector and the atx connector. my old motherboard did not have the 12 volt connector, do i use both the 12 volt and the atx connectors. also my new psu has a 20 and a 24 pin atx connector but the motherboard only has 20 pin will it still work or do i need to buy another psu.

Re: 12 v connector

I don't know which power supply you have, but most of those now have a little snap off for the extra four pins you don't need. Therefore, a 24 pin ATX connector will work when you snap that off there. You need to find that little end and just take off the extra four and everything should be fine.

You will need to use a +12 molex connector to this newer board. Be sure you don't use the little snap off from the ATX connector to hook that up. There should be a separate +12 molex that you use coming from the power supply.

Hope this is what you were asking, and if not, post back and clear me up on the issue.
