new build: no network adaptor

Hello,

I just build a new computer and installed win xp.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5K /SE.

I have installed the drivers cd that came with it.

Motherboard has build in network adaptor (PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET2 + as a rear pannel connector 1 x LAN (RJ-45) port according to the book )

But in the device mangager there is no network adapter listed, how is this possible?

Obviously my network connections are empty too and I cant connect to the net.

I have tried to look into the BIOS, went to default settings and looked that internet is enabled but still my XP service pack 1 install doesn't see any network adapter.

I have no idea how to even troubleshoot, it's like the hardware is missing.

Everything else works fine.

Yes I have done those, actually 3 times already..

I have done the ASUS Install - Drivers Installation Wizard.

The Intel Chipset Inf Update Program.

And the USB 2.0 Driver.

That's all there is.

Still no netwerkadapter according to the device manager.

If I browse the cd and run the driver for ethernet only I get the error:
Installer can't find Atheros L1 ethernet controller on your system.

Thaks for the reply.

Re: new build: no network adaptor

Thanks but that's not the problem I'm having.

I will go buy me a PCI express x1 networkadapter tomorrow if I can find one because 99% of the adapters are for wireless nowadays.

Re: new build: no network adaptor

Have a look in the BIOS, in some "onboard adapter" submenu (or something like that) and make sure that the on-board NIC is enabled.
