XP Startup, Reboot.

Hey guys.

I Have a problem with my new computer, I had bought a bunch of parts from Tiger Direct and put together my new computer. Everything was fine and so i started it up and the bios screen came up. did everything there and it went to the XP loading screen. well after the loading bar goes once through and then goes back again it chops up gets the bsod for about half a second and restarts back the the bios screen. I also get a hardware monitor every time before the XP screen. I went over to a friends house and hooked up my Hard drive there, still no luck same thing (but no Bios screen, Hardware monitor and BSOD) just starts to chop up at the loading bar and restarts. This is my first build so im open for any ideas.

Hi,

Did you just move the HDD with XP on it from another computer?
That won't work - the wrong set of drivers are installed in XP.
And - you might be violating the Windows license agreement (= illegal).

Can you start Windows in Safe mode?

Post the system specifications - CPU, video, motherboard, PSU etc.

Do you have a retail Windows disc?

Clear CMOS:
Get rid of static electricity by touching a radiator or bare metal on the computer case.
Then unplug the computer from the wall outlet and open the case.
Remove the little "coin-like" battery on the motherboard.
Move the "clear CMOS" jumper on the motherboard from pins 1&2 to pins 2&3.
Wait 30 minutes.
Replace the jumper to pins 1&2.
Put the battery back.
Close the case and start the computer.
Enter BIOS and choose "Load setup defaults" (or something similar) - save and exit BIOS.

Then i have my 80gb harddrive.

Yes i borrowed one from a friend plus i got my serial number, so yes i do.

So should i clear the CMOS now?

Okay i did what you said. and now it crashes before it even gets to the XP screen. no reboot just crashes. Also when i press the button to chose if i want to boot from a CD all there is there is Hard drive and Floppy. How can i boot form a cd??

The CD cable is probably loose - the CPU heatsink too.
PSUs that come with the case are usually very bad.

Check all cables/connections again.
Make sure the CPU heatsink isn't loose. If it is you have to reapply thermal paste.

Check the standoffs between the case and the mobo so you don't have a short circuit.
The standoffs must match the mounting holes on the mobo - no more, no less.

the cable isnt loose, neither is the CPU fan. and im not using that PSU anymore im using a 330watt. (crappier) any other ideas to boot from CD? Also i still have all my old stuff and if i move everything into it i can still get onto it (ive tried) should i do that and repair windows from there? can I?

What kind of XP disc are you using?

And - no, you can't repair the installation if the computer won't boot from a CD.

when i press F9. It says "Select Boot Option" theres no question to boot from a CD. im using an XP Home SP2 (same as my computer)

So any other ideas?

Look in BIOS for boot settings. Set it to look for the CD drive first.

It says "BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" but i know this drive is right, could it be the cord?

Oh and sorry if these are noob questions im new at this.

Can you see the CD drive in BIOS?
Are you sure the disc is OK?

yeah its in the bios. I choose "Boot from CD Drive First" or something like that and in where it shows where my hard drives are it shows the disk one. It worked on my old build so i think it should work. Could it be the wire?
