HELP! I think I bought a bogus P4EE processor

About 2 weeks ago I bought a processor from upgradebay.com. It was supposed to be a p4 extreme edition 3.2ghz SL7AA with the 512kb L2 cache and 2mb L3 cache. The motherboard I have is an Asus P4V800D-X with the newest bios. In the motherboard the CPU is recognized as only have a 512 Cache and no L3 cache. It recognizes the frequency correctly. When I run CPU-Z it tells me that the CPU is a northwood (hyper threading). Once again, no L3 cache is identified. I used intels processor identifier and it confirmed the lack of L3 cache. I called upgradebay.com and they won't refund my purchase, they will only exchange it. I am really pissed off

I called the motherboard manufacturer (ASUS) and one of the reps told me that the motherboard is 100% compatible with the SL7AA P4EE. He told me that there have been instances where the CPU seller will change the heat spreader so it is labeled as something that it isn't. Is it possible that I got dooped by these people? Or is something up with the motherboard? Let me know what you guys think.

Btw I have a good amount of computer knowledge and this isn't the first computer I've built.
