Mistake GA-7N400 Pro 2 Bios settings.....??

Ok so thats my mobo, and I am running an AMD 2600+, 1.5 gigs of ddr3200pc, 2 40 gig HD's, a GeForce 5900 Ultra (OC from BFG)....

I just replaced my old mobo because I was having some odd prblems, and I was kinda grasping at straws as to what the cause was. The problems included: USB devices would stop responding, my digi cam wouldn't communicate with my 'puter anymore, my mouse ceased to wake up my comp, and once I restarted my computer and it said my CPU was an amd 1250+!!

Now that I have the new mobo in, everything is running fine....EXCEPT that my processor is listed as being an AMD 1200+.....I go into the BIOS to adjust the cpu/FSB ratios/freqs and it there is no page in the bios that lets me do that.....Advanced chipset is usually where you find that right? Set everything to maunual and you can set your FSB and Freq multiplier where you want it so you can either set your CPU at its normal freq or overclock it.....well I don't seem to be able to find that option on this Gigabyte MOBO....if I hit F9(in the BIOS) it shows me what they have it set at, but it doesn't let me change it....

Why isn't it auto detecting the right processor speed? Why isn't there a menu in the BIOS to manually set the multiplier and FSB etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is the FSB and the multiplier set to in the BIOS? Should be set to 166 based on your proc which has 333 FSB...

The board itself is capable of 400/333/266MHz...

Yeah, by loading the optimum settings in the bios it sets it at 166, but the processor is still sitting at 1250 or something close to that, as far as the multiplier, I honestly don't see it anywhere in the bios.....you would think it would be on the same page as the FSB settings....but it's not....and the page w/the voltages and stuff is lame too...it lets you adjust em but by % instead of by actual voltage....the bios looks really cheap, not nearly as nice as the DFI lanparty nfII Ultra I had in there.....

You know how in most BIOS you can adjust the memory settings? like 5-2-2-2, and all that, I don't even have that option......I dunno,....when I tried updating the bios from the gigabyte site, I DL the file, install it, it puts an icon or three on my desktop, I go in and reset the BIOS to optimum settings (like the site says) and it doesnt seem to be doin anythign....when I run the dl'd .exe file, it brings up some crazy flash menu and says the chipset is not compatible....damn it I wish I were at home so I could get all this written down and be more specific.....

Sorry about the blathering....

Which board revision is your board? Make sure you are downloading the right one...

Rev 2.0......but is the bios update gonna add the ability to tweak the FSB and CPU multiplier? I looked at the update and I didn't see anything about it adding the ability to overclock....which btw, is the ultimate goal, my system is water-cooled and theres no reason for me not to OC it....

btw, thanks for the help so far!

Another quick question, as you can see on the site, they have many files you can download to update the bios....do I need to dl all of them, or just the most recent one?

Unsure...but, it's generally a good idea to keep your BIOS updated.

Well I got home, installed @bios from the mobo software disk, updated the bios, and its still telling me I am running a 1.25 G AMD Athlon XP....

Oh, and the bios looks the same as it did before, with nowhere to tweak my FSB and clock freq. Not to mention any other OC tweaks.

What am I doing wrong? Does anyone else out there have this mobo? Does your bios have the ability to set your clock and fsb/cpu speeds? memory settings?

Arrrrrgggghhhh!

I swear I am // close to just tearing this thing out and putting my DFI back...at least it knew what kinda processor I installed, and let me OC it!

Ok, I deserve to be drawn and quartered.....

My whole problem was the damn clock switch on the mobo......it was off when it shoulda been on....we call that "the old onoff problem".....now my processor is running at its regular old 2600+ self speed.....but if I wanna OC it.....

Do I just adjust the CLK_RATIO dipswitches to the multiplier just above the one its on now? Not that I know, cause its on auto, but hypothetically speaking and all....?

Doesn't make sense, if the proc is showing up as 1250 that means the FSB should be 100...

Try resetting the bios to defaults, save and exit.

Then, go back into the bios and manually set the FSB to 166...

The switches on the mobo, 5 or 6 togeather should be all off.
The other switch should be on.
When in the bios press Ctrl F1 to get more advanced features.
