2 days ago my computer started locking up after about 5 minutes. I tried a warm boot and cold boot. Now all that happens is fans come on, and hard drive light comes on and it seems to cycle between my 2 dvd-rw drives (lights flash on for one then the next and it just keeps repeating).
I have disconnected everything, cleaned dust out, re-connected everything, yet still no joy. If I disconnect the dvd-rw drives it just sits there, and hard drive light lights solid. Am thinking motherboard failure. Here are the stats for my computer, Oh yeah, I did take the CMOS battery out, waited and put it back in (did not replace it). Motherboard - Asus P5ND2-SLI CPU - Intel 3.0 ghz 1 gig Ram Power Supply - BFG 650 Watt Video - EVGA 7800 GT Sound - Turtle Beach DVD-RW -Lite On Hard Drives - 160 gig Seagate ATA 80 Gig Maxtor Any ideas?? As I said I can't get it to even Post so cannot load from CD. Trying to get this fixed today, my only day off. Thanks |

Re: Can't boot up not even POST
Do you have another video card you could put in there to check that? Does it get a post beep? What power supply do you have including brand name and wattage?
How old is the computer? Have you cleaned the dust out (heatsink/fan/cpu/other)of it? Does it ever just sit there and run, or just keep rebooting now? These things should help to point us toward possible problems.

Re: Can't boot up not even POST
Yes I did clean all the dust out of everything.
I do not have another video card to install. The power supply I bought at Best Buy a year ago, it is a BFG 650 Watt. The mother board is about 3 1/2 yrs old. No I do not even get a Post beep, fans start, both CPU and PS, then it just sits there cycling between the 2 DVD-rw drives. I did get it to boot up just a minute ago after taking CMOS battery out for a few minutes, I got it to boot up from my XP CD and did a chkdsk and it was fine, I then went into the BIOS but while in the BIOS setup it froze, I tried to shut down and restart, but again nothing happened other than fans coming on and it just sitting there, no Post, no beeps nothing. If the video card were at fault I would think I would get a POST just no video. I am still thinking PS or possibly I/O of Motherboard is shot. |

Re: Can't boot up not even POST
If you can get it up again, enter the bios setup menu and see what the temps and voltages are in there. That would help to pinpoint any issues you are seeing. Might want to try to get into the bios immediately before it starts the freezing bit.
