Confused Mobo and RAID.

I'm working on my first full build and I'd like to implement a RAID 0 configuration. I have a pretty good knowledge of computing and builds, etc., but I'm new to RAID. My question:

I have a NVidia(EVGA) 780i motherboard. The specs say that it supports RAID 0, 1, 5, etc. Does this mean that it functions the same as an external raid controller, or simply that the configurations are possible. Also, would you reccomend a hardware or software RAID?

Thanks

Re: Mobo and RAID.

Yes it works the same as an add on card, You will have to configure the array in the provided utility.
You will have to enable raid in the bios after you have your hard drives connected, save and exit the bios and then boot into the utility, can not remember the key, F10 I think, from there you can setup the array, exit and start loading windows.
Remember you have to install the raid drivers at the F6 prompt or at one of the initial vista screens
