help me choose a processor

hi guys.

I'm a first time builder and I'm looking for a processor. i already have the case, cpu, 120gig hard drive, dvdrw and floppy drive put togethor. but now im looking for a processor and motherboard.

i'm looking for a dual core processor and preferably an asus motherboard. but i'm stuck between AMD and intel processors.

can anyone shed some light on both manufacturers for me? my main focus for the PC is music production, web surfing, and some gaming (WOW etc)

thanks guys.
