First Build, Comp wont turn on

hello i just recently built a new computer i double and triple checked everything because this was the first time i built a comp. when i got everything hooked up i plugged it in, switched the PSU switch on and hit the power button. im not sure what happened really but i smelt something funny so i immediately unplugged it. after that i tried it again a few mins later, nothing happed i tried a few things but nothing worked. so im just wondering what you guys think and what i should do. here are the specs...

check if it needs a bios update for the cpu
i have moved you to m/b and cpu building is for advice mainly on what parts to buy
set it up out of the case on a piece of cardboard with
cpu
video
ram
speaker
and see if you get post

i have the phenom X4 9850 and it says NA which is not supported could this be the problem??

f4 bios here

there was a post earlier and this was the problem
they had to boot up with another cpu flash the bios and then change the cpu's over

so the only way to update the bois is to boot up with another cpu? dont have an extra one of those laying around.. any suggestions as to what i should do? return the motherboard and get 1 that supports my cpu?

just wondering shouldn't my comp at least power up the fans or something i took off the processor and still nothing happens and i did smell that power supply smell again when i tried to start it. could this mean my PSU is DOA?
