[SOLVED] New build. no post. all fans(including videocard) are running at full speed
I am a PC LAN Tech for AAA and build computers on a daily basis.
New PC spec's Rosewill RX950-S-B ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91 950W Power Supply AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HD985ZXAGHBOX GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX Ultra Durable II AMD Motherboard Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 RC-590-KKN1-GP Black SECC / ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case radeon X1900XTX video card This is a brand new build except for the video card which is from my previous box. The pc turns on, all the LED's, HD, CD drive and all fans come on like normal at first with the inital rush of power but then nothing follows. no beeps at all. the cd rom drive clicks as if its reseting. the case fans remain on. and the video card fan runs at max speed as if it were under emense stress. Ive done the normal troubleshooting on it.... removed all components down to memory, CPU, PSU, and video card and still get the same result. ive taken out the processor and reset it.. same result. ive taken out the RAM and i dont even get a ram error beeping. i have also taken the mobo out of the case and set it on foam and hooked up the minimum(ram, psu, cpu, video card) and i get the same results. in my opinion its either a bad processor or processor slot on the mobo. i just wanted to see if anyone had some better insight for me. thanks in advance |

Hi elusive31u Welcome to TSF
I would be more inclined to replace the MOB.

hey,
i was thinking the same thing. just pisses me off that a brand new 9850 quad core processor is DOA(dead on arrival). i might RMA the mobo and processor. |

I agree it can be frustrating.
![]() I RMA'd 5 MSI Boards once before I got one that worked. ![]()

Did you try checking the 4pin atx 12v connector that connects to the mobo, you probably know this but that what usually supplies the power to the cpu.
I had the same problem, turned out that the atx 12v wasn't delivering power, even though, the 20pin was working fine. |

Re: New build. no post. all fans(including videocard) are running at full speed
im RMA'ing the mobo today. i had the 4 pin atx 12v connected to the board.. its only used for 2 videocards on the mobo. i did some research yesterday and turns out that there are like 5 problems exactly like mine with the same mobo and cpu in the past week or so. 1 guy said he RMAed the mobo back and the company said that he was right and it was faulty so they are sending him a new one. but then another guy said he talked to gigabyte and they said he just needed to flash the bios... and his thoughts were the same as mine...how the heck am i suppose to flash the bios if i cant even post. i guess the new bios for the board just came out in april to support the new processor. the funny thing is newegg is selling these as a combo deal together.
its an AM2/AM2+ slot and i dont know anyone else with a newenough processor to fit the board to test and/or flash the bios. man i love being a tech guy, how about you lol Last edited by elusive31u : 04-18-2008 at 05:30 AM. |
