[SOLVED] random shutdown no start
sorry for bouncing this back to the top after 4 months, but I have the same issue (only connect the 20 pin, I get power, connect the P2 (4 pin connector by CPU and get fractions of a second of power))
I have an ECS nforce6m-a v2.0 board, the only thing connected is an 8600 video card. No beeps, no POST, nothing. Also, I have a 500W PS. My question (in a nutshell) is, what was the solution for the OP? New PS, new MB, new Processor or some selection of the above? TIA Of course, this is a bad day, since tomorrow is April 15th :( |

Re: [SOLVED] Random Shutdown and Wont Turn On.
You aren't trying to use the 4 pins (snap off) that was with the 24 (20 + 4) pin PSU connector, are you? You have to use the square +12 volt molex from the power supply to connect to the motherboard at that connection. If you had a 24 (20+4) connector and you don't need all 24 for your board, then you don't use that little snap off 4 pin connector. Hope you haven't damaged anything.

Re: [SOLVED] Random Shutdown and Wont Turn On.
No, I've been using the computer in this configuration for >6 months.
It just quit in the middle of the day yesterday, during the Masters; won't do anything with 20+4 plugged in AND ATX12V1 plugged in, will create power with ATX12V1 out, but no POST, nothing like it. |

Re: random shutdown no start
CoolerMaster 500W - I don't want to buy another PS until I know what's broken on mine, hence the add-on to the existing problem.
Essentially, I want to know what solved his problem, not so much to create a new problem. |

Re: random shutdown no start
stupid question, but without POST, how can I use this? I don't have another computer. All I got from the service guy at frys was that the ATX12V1 problem usually means CPU, but that's kind of vague.
I've been waiting for an ECS response (RMA) for more thana day now, do they ever respond? Last edited by kevindtimm : 04-16-2008 at 11:13 AM. |

Re: random shutdown no start
i was not saying there was anything wrong with the psu, only that it may be underpowered for the system
how long ecs takes i don't know as i have never had to deal with them but i would suspect the m/b before the cpu can you contact them by phone

Re: random shutdown no start
I had the same issue with an ECS board I picked up at Fry's as part of mobo/cpu combo. This would lead me to think it is probably the board. They are notoriously poor quality. Which is why they are practically giving them away. Case in point: a few weeks ago saw in Fry's ad Q6600/ECS mobo combo for $279.99. Newegg price for cpu only was $281.99.
When in doubt buy ASUS ![]() |
