Np display on monitor. PC about to go under the hammer.

Hi there,

The problem I am having is, after upgrading my PC, I am not getting any display on the monitor.

My Specs...
3yr old Thermalite case.
New motherboard. ASUS P5B-VM
New processor. Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz
New PSU. Corsair 450W
3 yr old Harddrive 80gig
New DVD Burner Pioneer.
3 yr old LCD flat screen monitor (SAMSUNG SyncMaster 172v)
New RAM. (2 x Corsair 1gig sticks)
Old floppy drive (but using new connector supplied with motherboard)

Ok. This is what I have tried so far...

My mobo has onboard graphics so I went through that first. No luck. I then tried going through a new PSI video card (MSI). No luck.

The system boots up ok. I hear a beep and all the fans run as they should.
The monitor goes green light for a second and then flashes in standby mode.

The keybord flashes green light a moment (NUM LOCK CAPS LOCK etc) and then wont respond afterwards (as in if I press CAPS theres no green light on the keyboard).

I have tried placing the RAM in different slots and even tried without the RAM at all. I have also tried disconnected EVERYTHING and just running with proc, mobo and PSU to see if I get dispay and no luck.

I have tried a different monitor (CRT). I have tried a different VGA cable (old one). I have inserted my monitor(SAMSUNG) into another computer and it works fine.

I have also tried assembling the motherboard outside the case on a sheet of cardboard (in case of grounding issues) and no luck.

I have disconnected everything and plugged in again and checked all connections and secure, and cleaned all ports for dust or dirt.

Oh and I have also tried an ancient tribal chant of healing power...until someone told me that only works on human flesh

So, to conclude. I am completely stuck. I hope its not faulty equipment as I need to get this fixed asap. I was very careful when assembling the PC.

Please help. The pc is about to go under the hammer.( as in I'm going to smash it up)

first of all, if you were using oem os on your system before upgrading, you will have to get a new key or os cd since you replaced the motherboard.

Did you do a repair install after installing the new motherboard? If not you still are using the old motherboard drivers.

No, I am going to format the whole thing. I have the windows CD in the disk drive ready to boot so I can format and install. The problem is there is no display on the monitor for me to see what is going on.

so absolutely nothing is showing up on the screen when you first start the computer?

Nothing at all.

Ive tested the monitor on another PC and it is working. On my setup it just goes into standby mode (flashing green)

I have seen the motherboard's BIOS cause these symptoms before. If you haven't already tried this, then you should remove the BIOS battery and set the jumper to the clear position. Usually you put the jumper back in the norm position after 15-20 seconds (and reinstall the battery). Some boards (like SOYO) work better if you leave the jumper out until after a successful boot. Bad power supply/ bad connection can also do this.

It might be a faulty power supply. I've had the same problems before where everything spins up and a PSU switch usually fixed them, so do try it out in another system. But try the CMOS reset first, as kokodesu93 said and don't forget to pull out the plug from the PSU while you're doing it.

So the mobo has onboard video?

Did you go into bios and select the corresponding signal path that you were attempting to use?
It may do so by default, it may not.

And there's always the obvious one, have you tried a different video cable?

thanks for the tips guys. Im no longer able to try out your solutions as I've sent it all back and am going to buy a Mac mini instead. As I use my computer mainly for music production I need stability above all else and the Mac can give me that.

Thanks all.

The Mac kernel is much easier to work with for software developers when it comes to music software. That seems to lend itself to more stable setups with recording software.
