Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
Hi eaglefalk, since the M2N-X only has two dimm slots you can't use the Kingston 4x 1gb memory, but it will support 4gb memory if you go 2x 2gb sticks. Your other parts should have no problems. Mike

I mean two corsair 1gb but are this the same CM2X1024-6400C4 and CM2X1024-6400. wounder if i can use these on asus m2n nforce 430 with out problems sorry for my english Last edited by koala : 04-14-2008 at 10:23 AM. Reason: merged |

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
Are you buying this board? ASUS M2N AM2 NVIDIA nForce 430 MCP
Or the M2N X PLUS nforce 430 MCP? The only difference between the two is the cas latency. Go with these they are cas4, and on this boards approved memory list. CM2X1024-6400C4 = cas4 CM2X1024-6400 = cas5

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
OK, the ASUS M2N AM2 NVIDIA nForce 430 MCP will support 4x 1gb DDR2 800 memory and the Corsair XMS2 I linked you to above is on the recommended memory list for this board. Mike

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
so then i can use these both.
CM2X1024-6400C4 = cas4 CM2X1024-6400 = cas5 so athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.0Ghz, 4x 1gb corsair cm2x1024-6400 or CM2X1024-6400C4 ddr2 800, sparkle Geforce 8500GT 1gb, 500w power supply and 400gb hhd will work with ASUS M2N AM2 NVIDIA nForce 430 MCP with no problems. |

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
What brand and model is the power supply you are looking at? Teammate Tumbleweed36 put together this article and it has some great recommendations at the end. Mike

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
On the side on the power supply it will have the specs listed, you should look at the +12v output, Nvidia recommends at least 24 amps for the PCI-E slot. I would not trust my expensive new parts to a generic 500 watt power supply, you get what you pay for. My method has always been to buy the parts I want in my computer, then buy a high quality power supply to run them with wattage headroom for an upgrade. If you ever decide to upgrade your video card, you will be glad you bought a higher output PS. Mike

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
That is a generic unit and although it has two 12v rails, it will not supply clean and steady power to an A64 X2 6000 cpu based system. Too big of a risk for me.
The Antec NeoPower 650 would work for this system.

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
I can't recommend using your current generic 500w power supply with any AM2 system, 22 amps on the +12v rails will not fully power the parts you will need to run. You're going to have to get something better.

Re: Memory, harddrive, graficcard
It doesn't matter which cpu you install, NVidia recommends 24 amps for the PCI-E slot. After some research on your parts, the Nvidia 8500 GT will draw 18 amps alone, that leaves almost nothing for the rest of the system. This doesn't take into account voltage drop at peak power demand or the inefficiency of a generic power supply. Your power supply was made for older systems that drew power from the 3.3v and 5v rails. Modern systems draw the bulk of their power from the +12v rails, this is why modern power supplies are designed with multiple high output +12v rails.
