OS: Ubuntu 7.10

Cannot update Bios.
I have a IBM NetVista M41 6794 Model NTU. The operating system I have is Ubuntu 7.10 which has been working fine until I had to relace the processor cooling fan, while doing this I damaged the Pentium 4 1.8 processor bus speed was 400 MHZ. The only replacement I could get was a (4 2.40 with a bus speed of 533MHZ. The motherboard only says IBM2001.
The new CPU is recogized hear is what shows when I press F2. Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 for IBM Netvista CPU= Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHZ 639K System RAM Passed 510M extended RAM Passaed 512K Cache SRAM Passed System BIOS Shadowed Vidio BIOS Shadowed Fixed Disk 0: WDC WD800JB-00JJCO ATAPI CD-ROM: LTN486S Mouse Intialized ORROR 0167: No Processor BIOS Update Found Press F! For set up I tried downloading a flash BIOS update from Lenovo for NetVista 6794 and making a bootable disk but cannot get it to boot from it. By the way if I select to boot from the hard drive it does eventually load Ubtu, it takes about half an hour to do this, then it is so very slow. Shall I keep trying to get this running or put it in the dumpster, would appreciate any help...Robert |
