Boot problem with Asus p4p 800 E Deluxe

Hi all,
Hope you can help me here. I recently built a new computer using the Asus P4P 800 E deluxe mobo, and a p4 3.0E processor.

For the first month my computer worked fine, now, if I shut the computer down, when I restart, The post message says cpu failed system start, and I have to turn off the power supply, then turn everything back on, at that point, everything boots no problem until the next time I shut down and start the computer up again. Anyone else had this problem?

Thanx

p.s System specs: p4p 800e deluxe mobo, pentium4 3.0E processor, 1024 dual channel ddr400 pc3200 ram(crucial) 120 ghz HD, nvidia fx5700 ultra vid card (128 bit) DVD/CD rw combo drive.

mmm...ok, only worked temporarily, had same problems earlier tonight, started computer, post message says, system failed cpu test. It looks like everything is seated properly on the mother board, and the computer works, but I have to turn off powersupply, turn it back on, and then start it for system to boot....
I'm stumped.

Ok, haven't gotten as far as updating the bios..I actually have to go buy a floppy disk...I never use those anymore. Anyway, I never got that far, I'm about 90% sure it was just a power supply problem. I used 420 raidmax powersuply that came with my case instead of buying one. Last night it bit the dust hard, computer wouldn't even start. Went out today and bought an antec 480 watt truepower, and everything is working fine. So far no problems with booting like I had before, gonna give it a couple days and see what happens, will post the results here.

p.s. how do I post that the problem has been resolved like you said? I didn't see anything to click on at the bottom of the screen.

Had to update the BIOS on a gigabyte with no floppy.

you can actually make a bootable cd and dump the bios files onto it and run it from dos.

good luck.

I think the forum is still tweaking that feature. Right now it's not there. So don't worry about it.

Yes but did the PC still work? I think this is the message that we're supposed to ignore, unless the PC won't run. Asus has never told us what's being "tested".

So far I'm having no problems, but will give it a few more days.

The message I was getting when I would turn on the computer would say "system failed cpu test" repeatedly, and the computer would not start. I would have to physically turn off the powersupply in the back of the computer, turn it back on, then it would power up normally.

The ASUS manual that came with the motherboard tells you that this message means your cpu is not properly seated on the motherboard, but in my case I think it was that the power supply I was using was a POS and couldn't handle my system. Since placing the new power supply, I have not had any problems at all.

Problems solved, the whole thing was a power supply issue. I've had 0 problems in over a week or so, consider this case closed :c)
