Ok so I’m attempting to build a new computer.
I have an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard and a power supply has a max voltage of 500 watts. The motherboard needs a minimum of 400 watts to run. I have stripped it down to just the motherboard and psu. The psu’s fan will spin for 16 or so seconds then stop. I am sure that I have everything plugged in correctly. I originally thought that it was a bad motherboard, so I replaced it and the problem is consistent.I have also plugged the psu into a test computer and it ran fine... I have also put in another processor chip and the same problem occurs. I am lost on what to do next. Also popped the cmos batter out and set the jumper to 2-3 and back to 1-2 where it originally was I am hoping one of u can help me. If u need additional info please let me know. Re: Building Computer need help. PSU or Mobo problem
Is the case using stan-offs or does it have raised bosses? Have you tried removing one of the ram chips to see if it will boot? And then switching to another in case one of them is bad. Also, what kind of power supply are you using?

Re: Building Computer need help. PSU or Mobo problem
ok made some progress.
it now staes on with the ram in dimm1. i believe one of the ram chips was faultee. I still have no beeps and noting on the monitor. the mobo has some lights on it that now sae C1 instead of a number like 92 or 99. I read the manual and it saas when it has a C1 on the lights that it is performing a "memoree presence test" and when it passes the light will change. it hasn't changed. i tired moving the ram to different places and it does the same thing. Ogh there aree little nubs that I havce to screw in before puttinbg in the mother board Last edited by kurtgutierrez; 03-09-2008 at 08:38 PM. |

Re: Building Computer need help. PSU or Mobo problem
You can not put a motherboard in unless you have motherboard standoffs or motherboard posts. One for each hole in the motherboard, no more, no less. You can not just screw it to the bottom of the case without posts to put it on. That is where you need to start to check. Not having them will short out the motherboard and could possibly cause harm to your computer components.

Re: Building Computer need help. PSU or Mobo problem
What we need to make sure of is that no part of the bottom of the mother board is touching the motherboard tray. The only part of the board that should be touching metal is the back face plate. And only when it goes against the back ports and so forth. Make sure that it is straight and lined up so that the corner isn't touching the case.
I have a friend at work that just put together a really good system and brought to me because it would not even turn on. He paid close attention to what parts I told him to get and I think that is the only reason he didn't screw his whole system. He screwed a brand new Asus motherboard with a C2D 3.0 right down to the motherboard tray. I credit that the fact he purchased the PC Power and Cooling PS, I suggested, to the fact that it wouldn't even power up. Otherwise I think he would have screwed his board up if not more. He had built many systems before, but he forgot the stand offs this time. Patrick Last edited by pt121984; 03-09-2008 at 09:18 PM. |
