Asus p4p800e deluxe mobo
P4 3.2ghz 512mb 3200 ram Western Digital 160gb hd geforce4 mx 440se Here is my problem; I formatted the hard drive for installation of windows xp. I rebooted and got "No OS found. Insert OS disk and press any key to continue." So, I put in the windows xp home cd (full version not upgrade), and nothing happend. It just repeats the same message. I've tried every different selection of boot settings in the bios setup but nothing works. (My hard drive is plugged into the primary ide port, and cd drive is in the secondary ide port). So thinking somthing went wrong when I was formatting, I reformatted it, again using the windows xp option. I rebooted when it said to, and put in the windows xp cd. Now I am getting a message "NTLDR is missing. Press crtl+alt+del to restart." From this point I can't get anywhere. I can't boot from the windows cd for some reason, floppy drive doesn't work, and I can't reformat the hard drive. Any ideas? |

I would go into the bios and make sure your boot sequence is cd rom , H/D , floppy and make sure you press f10 to save and exit. also make sure your H/D jumper is on master. then put your xp cd in and try to do a repair install

I had the same problem yesterday, same mainboard, a WD hard drive, Geforce 440MX and XP. I finally got XP installed, after erasing the hard drive using the WD floppy, and installing Windows 2000, then running the XP CD from Windows, choosing "new installation" , not "upgrade".

Hi,
A friend recently told me that with Western Digital if it is the only drive on the cable, the jumper will need to be removed ( try removing the jumper and connect the drive by itself on the IDE channel ) I don’t use Western Digital drives, so I can’t verify this, but might be worth a try Hey, what can you lose by trying? And, don't forget if it is the only drive on the cable, you must use the end of the cable and not the middle connector. |

How Do I Correct An NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM Not Found Error For some reason or other this problem has appeared quite regularly in the XP newsgroups and while it can be an inconvenience - you not being able to boot your pc - the actual remedy is relatively simple. However, although the remedy is simple, the way you go about it will be dependant upon whether you are able to boot your system from the Windows XP CD or whether you need to boot from an older Windows 98/Me startup floppy disk.
