1gb PC 2100 problem
I have a PC Chips M848A Motherboard with a 2500 Bartonprocessor.
It has been working fine with 2 sticks of 512mb PC2100. To extend it's life before a full upgrade, I purchased 3 1gb sticks of Kingston PC2100. The Motherboard book says this should be OK, 3 sticks at 1gb max of 3gb. With the new RAM, the system does not boot at all. No self test screen no beeps, only a brief sound of a Hard drive exercising then absolutely nothing. I tried with just one stick 3 times using each stickin turn. If I put my 512mb sticks back in, all is normal.. I have tried resetting the BIOS with JP1, but that does not work, because it won't get through to the BIOS Setup. The BIOS is AMI release 07/07/2004. Anybody got any suggestions please. |

Re: 1gb PC 2100 problem
Are the sticks low density or high density?

Re: 1gb PC 2100 problem
The computer might not support either high or low density ram , you'll need to find out which you bought and what your motherboard supports. Usually it says in the motherboard manual.

Re: 1gb PC 2100 problem
Do you mean the difference between DDR1 and DDR2.
The motherboard is definately DDR1. I understand the Ram is also DDR1 as I can find no reference to it being DDR2. I think I will have to ask Kingston about compatibility with my Motherboard. Thanks for the pointers. |

Re: 1gb PC 2100 problem
No, low density ram is ram that has a small amount of high quality chips on it, they cost a lot more then high density. High density ram is ram that has large amounts low quality chips on it and is cheaper then low density. You motherboard might not support one or the other. It would be best to call the motherboard makers and ask if that model supports high or low density.
