MS-6712 Motherboard power problem

i have a MSI KT4V (MS-6712) Motherboard and im in need of a power strip/cable that goes from the mobo to the case. i have one from another pc but it's short 2 wires so if im correct it needs a 8 wire strip or a 10 wire strip. i dont remember right now but i'll post as soon as i can look at the mobo again. any help would be great. thanks for any and all help.

Re: MS-6712 Motherboard power problem

Hi 2thpic, at one time I had a system that used this board. I cannot think of the wire you are decribing. There is a 20 pin power wire from the power supply, the front case wires. Now if you are talking about an add on rear usb bracket, then there are several configurations of the wire. The motherboard will have a 10 pin connector labeled "jusb1" with the #10 pin missing. You really only need 8 of the pins, the most important thing is to identify the #1 pin. If you hook this up backwards, it will start to burn circuits on the motherboard.(Ask me how I know) Mike

Re: MS-6712 Motherboard power problem

it's the wires that come from the board to the on/off switch on the case.

Re: MS-6712 Motherboard power problem

There are 5 seperate wires that should be in the front of the case, a 2 pin connector labeled "HDD LED", a 2 pin labeled "Power SW", a 2 pin labeled "Reset SW", a 4 pin labeled "SPKR", and a 3 pin "Power LED". The Power LED might be split into 2 single pins, a positive and negative. Some cases do not include a speaker either. Mike

Re: MS-6712 Motherboard power problem

ok, i think i have figured out what is going on here. first off let me say this is not my pc............. the person that i'm trying to help is trying to put this mobo in to a old dell off white metal case. You know as well as i do that dell likes to keep thing dell and not be able to interchange with after market parts. so i just told her that she needs to buy a after market case and then we can have her up and running in no time at all.
