IDE controller issue?
I installed windows xp on a seperate machine than the one I intended on using the Hard Drive in because the machine I want the Hard Drive in will not boot from CD. Old BIOS doesnt have the option to set boot options or I'm just not seeing it. Its an old IBM computer.
Anyway I put the HDD into the IBM machine after I installed windows xp on it and now its at the point were it keeps restarting. I booted with a old windows98 floppy that I had and am now browsing the windows xp CD through DOS prompt. I tried to run setup.exe but it says it cant be run in DOS. Is there a way to install the recovery console this way so I can just do a fix boot or something that will fix it? Thanks. |

Re: IDE controller issue?
I just decided to download the 6 setup disk utility from microsoft so hopefully I'll be able to install xp initially using these disks since the PC will not boot to cdrom.

Re: IDE controller issue?
What is the model number of the IBM?
If it's really to old to boot to cd, then it is likely to old to run Windows XP. BTW, the six floppies will work just fine. One more thing, in order to install on one machine and and use in another you would need to do a repair install of Windows once it's in the 2nd or use Sysprep on the drive before removing it from the install machine. |

Re: IDE controller issue?
its a netvista type 6578-TAU.
It was running windows 2000, it has a pIII 1.0ghz cpu in it. The six disks worked atleast for the initial copy of files but after it rebooted it just starting the loop of restarting. Initially I placed the HDD in another computer while it still had win2000 on it and it booted up just fine on that machine. I dont know whats wrong with it. |

Re: IDE controller issue?
Sorry about the late reply. Make sure the Cdrom is recognized in the BIOS, try a new ribbon cable.
The boot order option should be under Startup Options. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...id=MIGR-4XVQAL http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-52236 http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...hEntry=6578TAU |
