System booted, but screen wont start

Im going to try to describe my problem as detailed as possbile. ANd by the way, this might be the wrong forum. If it is, sorry.

On my birthday i got some computerparts, so that i could build a good computer. I dont know if information about the parts is useful, so ill skip it.

It took me quite some time to figure out how to boot the system, but just 2 days ago i managed to do it. It worked perfectly for a day, then i tried to add my old harddrive to the the PC. Of course it didnt work, and when i started up the computer again a blue screen came up, and it said something like "dumping physical memory". Then it just turned off. And now, when i turn it on the computer starts, but the screen remains black. Ive tried starting it up with another graphic card, and even with another monitor, but no effect.

What should I do?

Re: System booted, but screen wont start

welcome

the added drive seems as if it balled up your bios.
make sure the removed drive isn't listed in the bios, recheck your ribbon cable orientation, then clear the cmos.

it is helpful when you post your complete specs including the power supply info.

Re: System booted, but screen wont start

before the splash screen appears, tap delete [a few times] to enter your bios.
remove the button battery for 15 mins. after you destatic yourself and unplug the machine to clear the cmos. there is a small release to push with a toothpick, or alike, to pop the button battery out of the retainer. you will then need to adjust the values, if necessary, in the bios.
