Hi,

Try reseating the CPU. Also, you need to tell us everything about your computer, CPU type (prescott or northwood), motherboard, bios number, video card...etc. That might give us a clue to what is going on.

I tried reseating CPU but still not working.
Its a Prescott P4 3EGhz processor. Other than the fact that its a Compaq processor board I don't know much more.
The graphics card is nVidia nv11 64MB - this works fine tho.
How can I find out the BIOS number? Preferably with out rebooting.

Thanks for help.

Running :
DVD drive
CD Re-writer
Western Digital Hard Drive
Quantum Fireball Hard Drive
3x 256MB SDRAM PC133

Anyone help?

How about taking everything except the vid card out and seeing if it'll post? That is a lot of stuff for such a tiny power supply.

It also does soung like a seating problem- either that or the processor itself is bad- I had a athlon that did that and after some close inspection, it was physically damaged (a nick in the core).

If this is a Prescott core P4, most of the system specifications I see specify a minimum of a 350 watt supply. The Prescott is a real power hog, and under full load can consume over 150 watts! Doesn't leave much power for the rest of the system.

So you had a P4 1.5ghz on a board that has a 133 FSB.

And you put in a P4 3.0GHZ....I dont think your motherboard can handle that m8. Now I might be wrong on this as I dont use Intel chips. But does the P4 3.0GHZ not require a motherboard woth a 400MHZ FSB?

Please correct me if I am wrong on this

You can find out your motherboard model by going to www.cpuid.com and download the program. It will tell you all you need to know. Put your old cpu back in a try that.

OK here's the deal.
I just got all this info from the CPUID program.

DMI System Information
----------------------
System #1
manufacturer Compaq
product 5365EA 470022-837
version MODEL1
serial 4D1BKHVFV0H6
UUID 20969BF4-6F67D511-A4949E24-B8B35612

DMI Baseboard
-------------
Baseboard #1
vendor Compaq
model 077Ch
revision unknown
serial 4D1BKHVFV0H6

DMI System Enclosure
--------------------
System enclosure #1
manufacturer Compaq
chassis type Desktop
chassis serial 4D1BKHVFV0H6

DMI Processor
-------------
CPU #1
manufacturer Intel
model Pentium(R) 4 processor 1500 MHz
clock speed 1500.0MHz
FSB speed 400.0MHz
multiplier 4.0x

From this can you tell me if the P4 3.0Ghz Prescott processor is compatible.

Again, thanks for your time and help.

I don't think the Prescott CPU is compatible P4 Prescotts require a 800MHz FSB. Yours is currently running a 400MHz FSB. Being a 1.5GHz Compaq this is probably about 2-3 years old and I believe you might be stuck with a 2.2GHz CPU running 400MHz FSB cap with your MB. You might want to download Everest to see what chipset your MB has then you can research to set what the maximum CPU speed that will run with that particular chipset.

prescotts are a pain even on boards that do say they support them... the chances of geting it to run on a two year old board is pretty low.
sorry
