Processor help!

Hello.

I purchased a processor, which arrived today. I took my old one out (Celeron) and put the new one in (P4). I put it in and turned the computer on, and, it just displayed the amber light and nothing showed up on the monitor. When I put my Celeron back in, the same thing happened... What's wrong with my computer?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

No. It won't arrive until tomorrow. That wouldn't be the reason as to why it won't switch on would it?

Re: Processor help!

Yes it would be very much a reason it is overheating, you atleast had the heatsink on right?

It wouldn't overheat quite yet. I only took the old processor out an hour ago. And, now the computer displays the amber light and just presents a black screen when I put either of them in. And, yes, the heatsink is on.

Re: Processor help!

you could try reseting the cmos but i think it is overheating

Unplug and take the silver battery out of the motherboard for 30 min, after that put the batery back and plug in and try to boot

I can't run the computer it won't switch on. The thermal compound is irrelevant as the computer isn't doing anything. It'll switch on and my monitor will say "no signal"
