HELP!! My system started to freeze when it went into screen saver mode, so I would have to power down/up to get it running again. It was OK all the time I was using it until it went into screen saver, at first! Then it would freeze whilst I was using it, requiring full power reset. It then froze whilst booting up, so I tried safe mode, it froze. It then stated something about overclocking, hit F1 to enter setup F2 to carry on. F2 it froze. F1 it said wait and I did, nothing happened. It then would not boot at all, power was OK LED's are lit CPU fans, Graphics Fan all running just a blank screen and no beep. So I reset BIOS, pulled battery swapped pins, still nothing. I then tried the bench test as stated on this forum. Motherboard with just speaker and power gives one long beep followed by two short beeps, power down and insert one stick of RAM, nothing and that is where I am up to at the moment. Any suggestions ..Anyone??????

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
I am unable to test CPU as I do not have a compatible Mobo, however I have tested RAM and Graphics card in a colleagues computer and they both work fine. I did try his RAM on my board and it gave two short beeps on initial startup but not on subsequent try's? So assuming the Mobo is OK due to the fact it beeps and my RAM is OK as is the Graphics card, would I be right to buy a new CPU or would I be wasting my money?

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
RAM and video card are OK.
Did you try another (better) power supply? If so, it has to be either the CPU or the motherboard. I think you should try the CPU with another mobo (maybe at a local shop) or test the mobo with another CPU. But - don't buy a new processor yet. IMO it's impossible to say whether it's mobo or CPU. |

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
Update, due to the fact that I have no compatible mobo or CPU I have had to relent and hand both items into local Computer shop hopefully they will be able to confirm which is defective. Will keep you all in the picture.

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
Did you install an identical motherboard?
If not, you have to make a repair installation of XP: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm |

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
11.8 is OK (not good, but OK). The tolerance 11.4-12.6V.
Did you reapply thermal paste between the CPU and its heatsink? If not, you have to do that ASAP - instructions here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm |

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
Yes, do that.
And I think you need another power supply as well. A quality PSU with at least 400, but preferably 500, watts. Something like this: http://www.antec.com/uk/productDetails.php?ProdID=04644 |

Re: Unable to Boot Computer
Clear CMOS. To do that:
First ground yourself by touching a radiator or the computer case. Then unplug the computer from the wall outlet and open the case. Remove the little "coin-like" battery on the motherboard. Move the "clear CMOS" jumper on the motherboard from pins 1&2 to pins 2&3. Wait 30 minutes. Replace the jumper to pins 1&2. Put the battery back. Close the case and start the computer. Enter BIOS and choose "Load setup defaults" (or something similar). While in BIOS - the CD drive should be set to first boot device, hard drive set to second. Save and exit BIOS. |
