XP does not recognize ACPI
Hi!
I just bought a new CPU with ECS P4M890T-M motherboard, and Intel Pentium Dual Core. At first, I tried to install Windows XP, but it says that there is an unknown device, and that I should remove it. I installed Windows 2000 instead. I checked the type of PC in the Device Manager, and my it was labeled as ACPI Multiprocessor PC. I tried to upgrade to XP, but the same error appeared. I then researched the internet, and read about clean installation of XP. It was mentioned that instead of pressing F6, you have to press F5 and choose ACPI Multiprocessor PC. I did that, but there were only two options: Standard PC, and Others (which requires me to have a disk). I chose Standard PC, and the XP set-up was successful. But, my PC is slower than ever. It even prevented me from viewing any web pages (my connection is fine, but every browser returns a 'Page cannot be displayed'). I checked BIOS (American Megatrends w/ support for plug and play) and discovered that ACPI has been disabled. I enabled it and tried repairing windows XP installation. When I pressed F5, it showed Standard PC C-xxxx (series of numbers). I reinstalled another copy of Windows XP, but it restarted 3 times (note: it showed the same error: unknown device, remove it) before succesfully being installed. But, when I looked into my Device Manager, it is still Standard PC. Now, how can I force XP to recognize ACPI? Where I can get ACPI drivers? How do I correct this problem? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
