dual core processor not running smoothly

Hi guys,
hoping someone can help me with my issue, i have an intel 3.0ghz dual core processor which isn't running well, one of the cores is running nearly at maximum while the other core is running normally. When checking the performance in the task manager cpu is running at around 50% even tho no applications are running and system is pretty much in an idle state. With the 1 core running at maximum it is causing issues playing video footage causing the sound to stutter. I have restarted and cold booted the system many times, even leaving it not running for a while then switching it on. The system is booting very slowly also and some things are taking longer to process, not sure if the core is damaged or if something else is causing the problem. If you have an ideas on what it could be and suggestions on what i should do it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Re: dual core processor not running smoothly

Hello

please post your full system spec details with the make and model of your power supply unit

if you dont know this info you can download the freeware called everest home edition and then run the program, copy and paste the system summary into this thread

then download and run memtest86.com run the memory test for at least 2-3 hours

if that passes

then go to your hard drive manufacturer's website and download their free diagnostic drive utility at downloads/support

post back with the info from these inquiries

best regards '

joe

[choose lite]

Add 30% to your final load. The 400 watt unknown brand supply appears short, but I dont want to jump the gun before you add up your hardware.

Re: dual core processor not running smoothly

Just checked the voltages and they are fine, having more wouldn't hurt but i am using less than i have available,i don't have much hardware running. The temperature is a little high, sits around 55 degrees celsius, that reading come through the bios.

Re: dual core processor not running smoothly

go to the "slow" hard drive manufacturers website / download their diagnostic drive utility (free)

post back after the utility checks the mechanical condition of the drive

BTW >>>>> yes a bad drive "could" cause your symptoms

Hey buddy I think I know your problem it seems to me you have a pretty powerfull machine there what you need is more cooling this the reason your cpu is acting as it is http://www.emaxasp.com/superior/details.asp?item=FAN%2DGWWA01 this is a great site where there sell extra fans for under $10. Plus the customer service is superior.

I've also heard that AMD's Dual-Core Optimizer works well with Intel chips.
